The Curing Sunday- Blog 3

Blog 3- Forrest Gump

"Do you remember what Forrest Gump said? ‘Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re gonna get.’ What a load of rubbish that is. Life is not like a box of chocolates. How many people do you know come with their own guidebook? Helping you make that tough decision between the champagne or cappuccino truffle. You know the ones you like before you pick them, so you always know ‘what you’re gonna get’ with a box of chocolates. You know you can always make the right choice or pick the best option. You know what is coming so you can plan the moment to cherish it. You can have it snuggled up under a blanket in front of the television or you can save it for a rainy day if you really want to.

In life you can never do this. ‘You never know what you’re gonna get’. That part is true. You never know what decision you should make beforehand or the best option to take until you have taken it. What happens when you pick up that champagne truffle not knowing what you have and in one bite it is gone? It is gone before you ever had the chance to really taste it. It is not a big deal with a box of chocolates because there is most probably another one left to be cherished, unless your other half has beaten you to it of course. But in life you never get a second chance, there is never a second champagne truffle to rely on. In life there is never a chance to treasure it, to save it. In life there are only moments and when that moment passes it is gone and it is gone forever; all that remains is a happy memory of a distant day."

So above is the introduction to how the main character, the main narrator thinks; thoughts that sometimes strongly resemble my own and sometimes they do not. Firstly, this is not an attack on Forrest Gump in any way. In fact I think that movie is great. It is more inspired by how my name is Paul Woods and I get injured a lot, mainly by playing football. It is for this reason why one of my nicknames came about; Forrest Gump. It then goes on to explain how life is never planned; how it can never be planned. You can do your best but when you are in that moment to make a decision you have to make it. For Michael, he will have to make decisions he never knew he would have to and it is only he who can make them. Hopefully you can all relate to this.
